Geeta Malik recently completed directing her feature script INDIA SWEETS AND SPICES for SKE and Madison Wells Media. INDIA SWEETS AND SPICES (formerly DINNER WITH FRIENDS) won the prestigious Academy Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting as well as the Austin Film Festival Feature Comedy Screenplay award.
Geeta has won the inaugural Academy Gold Fellowship for Women, awarded to a female filmmaker as part of the Academy’s Action initiative. She is also a recipient of the Edie and Lew Wasserman Film Production Award, the Coppel Screenwriting Award, the Jack Nicholson Distinguished Director Award, in addition to being a Film Independent Project Involve Fellow.
Geeta received her Master of Fine Arts from UCLA’s graduate program in directing, where her viral narrative short AUNTY Gs earned her a College Television Award in comedy production from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Her short film BEAST played at Method Fest and the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, and her first feature TROUBLEMAKER premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival, later distributed by Asian Crush. Her most recent short, SHAMELESS, has played at over 15 festivals, including the Sedona Film Festival, and won the jury award for best comedy at the Long Beach QFilm Festival.
